Greens Welcome Bishop's Syria Withdrawal Suggestion

The Greens have welcomed the surprise suggestion by Foreign Minister Julie Bishop that the US and Russia consider military withdrawal from the Syrian conflict.

“This is an important recognition that the path to peace in Syria lies through military draw-down rather than persisting with endless escalation,” Greens defence spokesman Senator Ludlam said.

The Prime Minister's pitch for UN Human Rights Council Membership appears to be operating in a parallel universe, the Australian Greens said today.

"Australia's own record of human rights violations is facing international condemnation like never before, and until the bipartisan race to the bottom ceases, the Government has no hope of making a persuasive case for Membership," Acting Greens leader Senator Scott Ludlam said today.

Another day, another net filter fail from this most agile government

The Government should immediately confirm whether or not it intends to introduce a radical new internet filter blocking overseas commercial sites that don't charge GST, as reported by Choice magazine.

"I honestly hope that this is a hoax, because it is hard to believe that a proposal as off-the-wall as this one could seriously be under consideration. Treasury should shut this down or come clean," Greens Communications spokesperson and Co-Deputy Leader Senator Scott Ludlam said today.
