On Saturday 13th June, a national rally is being held in most capital cities around Australia. All five Greens Senators will be speaking at or attending rallies across Australia tomorrow calling for the CPRS to be scrapped and replaced with swift action to reduce emissions, drive renewable energy and create green jobs.

  • Bob will address the Melbourne Rally, 1pm, State Library
  • Christine will address the Hobart Rally, 12 noon, Parliament Lawns
  • Rachel will address the Perth Rally, with Scott also attending, 12.30 pm, Forrest Place, Perth
  • Sarah will address the Adelaide Rally, 11am, Victoria Square

We're also expecting large numbers of Greens members to be in attendance. Full details of the rallies can be found at www.climaterally.org and resources and details about the Greens' involvement can be found at www. greens.org.au/resources

Bob has also done a short video piece:

Hope to see many of you there!

Rug up

Well I'm very concerned about the spread of swine flu especially with this winter weather cold patch we're having. It's also meant to rain all day tomorrow. But I did say I would attend so I guess it means lots of warm clothing and wet weather gear and it may even prove safe to wear a face mask provided I can get one.

Duddy's a ruddy!

I find Wong's remarks about today's demonstration remarkable: "What we are asking just cannot be done!" What, the unsustainable use of fossil fuels (nonrenewable resources) is? Turn it up duddy your story is old!

13the June Rally

Not sure if was really that cold on the 13th or that Australia's Climate Activists only number somewhere around 6,000 (9 News). That left 21 million of us that are either skeptics, ambivalent or think staying warm is more important!

I know I've used the term "Vocal Minorities" before in my posts but even I thought there were more than 6,000... just goes to show how vocal they are when you see the amount of ink they manage to generate!

Assuming those that attended were all Greens Voters at the last election (and I really doubt that), that means approximately 0.6% of the Greens Primary voters turned up!

Makes one think...

Cynical....

I think these rallies are great but I feel the maor parties in politics no longer respond to these kind of demonstrations therefore its a waste of time.

More than one issue

With hundreds of whales dead on beaches around Tasmania I thought there would have been a rally of the Greens Party members to find out exactly the reason why.

In my opinion there is clear empirical evidence to indicate whales are mammals, whales have a fear of drowning, weakened mammals swimming have a fear of drowning and seek shallower water to prevent drowning, whales in shallow water panic and sometimes the pod gets into shallow water while responding to the panic.

What are results of autopsies on the poorer looking carcasses? Why is science and government and media failing to find and report the cause or all possible causes?

Isn't it possible for the Greens to deal with two issues at once and not just climate change?

Does the Greens Party have justifiable reason to ignore devastated seagrass and seagrass dependent pilchards and anchovies and herring baitfish that even baleen whales are known to eat?

Then there is also malnutrition and worsening disease and now chronic poverty and a 69% increase in maternal mortality amongst Solomon Islands - Pacific island indigenous people who also depend on baitfish and migratory tuna that depend on baitfish.

When are the Greens going to give due attention to these marine ecosystem issues in order to find solutions besides just solutions for climate change?

Nothing is impossible if we

Nothing is impossible if we have a strong will to pursue for what we want to achieve. It is just a matter of perseverance and collaborate effort from the government and the non government organization to attain a sustainable, green environment. Environmentalists are rightly concerned with the impact on the earth is from all the cars that aren't being used. Still, it is definitely going to take some big installment loans to find something to do with all these unsold brand new cars.
