When the federal government committed Australian troops to the invasion of Iraq in 2003, hundreds and thousands of Australians marched around the country in protest.

Six years on, a Bill before parliament aims to ensure that in future, any such deployment would be subject to the will of the people, via their duly elected representatives.

The Greens' private members Bill would require the parliament to vote to approve sending troops to fight on foreign soil.
