Mandatory Internet Censorship

The Government is proposing to introduce mandatory internet censorship. Experts believe that the proposed filter will do little to protect users from accessing illegal material, but will potentially slow down the internet.
During Senate question time, I asked Minister Stephen Conroy about this project . You can view the broadcast of the question and his answer here.
There are still numerous problems with the Governments approach,
including technical shortcomings highlighted by a range of experts in
the field, issues surrounding the secret contents of the ACMA
blacklist, and the potential assault on free speech that the filter
represents. Most importantly, we await evidence the system as proposed
will do anything to address genuine and valid concerns about children's
access to online pornography.
The Greens will stay at the forefront of the campaign to throw an accountability spotlight on the Government's proposal.
You might like to give the Minister a call on (02) 6277 7480 or email him on senator.conroy@aph.gov.au to share your views with him.
