Your messages in bottles to Peter Garrett, calling on him to introduce a national container deposit scheme, were delivered by Adele Carles WA Greens Member for Fremantle.
The petition, containing well over 2000 signatures, was presented to the Minister at the Environment Protection and Heritage Council meeting in Perth on November 5.
The Australian Greens were disappointed that the meeting decided to delay any announcement of a national scheme.
However we will continue to push for a widely-supported, national drink container deposit and recycling scheme.

Together with internationally renowned anti-nuclear activist and paediatrician Dr Helen Caldicott, Greens MLC Robin Chapple, and representatives of the Anti-Nuclear Alliance of WA (ANAWA), Scott met with local councils in Leonora and Kalgoorlie, the local Development Commission, Aboriginal representative bodies, interested members of the community and local mothers to discuss the possible impacts of mining uranium in the region and the transportation of uranium oxide through Kalgoorlie.
