Assisting on Defence
The Australian Greens are deeply committed to the principle of nonviolence, which is one of the four pillars that are the foundation of our party's policy and practice. In rejecting violence, the Greens believe that conflict can be prevented and that Australian Defence Forces should only be deployed after Parliament has mandated defence and peacekeeping.
The Greens believe genuine security cannot be achieved through arms races but through investment in diplomacy, human rights, social development and environmental security. We can face and address the real threats, but only if we divert investments in militarism - USD$1630 billion globally in 2010 – toward human and environmental security.
