Heritage
Recognising, celebrating and protecting Australia’s cultural and Indigenous heritage is a key goal of the Australian Greens. Australia’s heritage places are an integral part of our national identity and Australians do not want to see these places lost. The heritage portfolio offers unique opportunities for job creation, community revitalisation and education but renewed federal leadership and adequate funding are urgently needed to ensure that heritage remains a vital and core component of the Government’s agenda.
Our three key priority areas are:
- Indigenous heritage law reform;
- The development of an ambitious Australian Heritage Strategy; and
- Increasing the level of resources available to the Heritage Department for pro-active heritage identification, assessment, conservation, monitoring, education, training, promotion and research.
