Local Government

Lee is the Australian Greens spokesperson on local government. The Greens have a long history of representation in local government in most states. There have been Greens on councils ever since the first Greens were elected to Marrickville and Newcastle councils in 1991. Green mayors have led local councils such as Byron, Marrickville, Leichhardt, Randwick, Ashfield, Fremantle, Yarra and Maribyrnong.

At a federal level, Senator Rhiannon is working on the upcoming referendum on constitutional recognition of local government. Local government plays an important role in Australian democracy, and needs stable funding to continue this important work.
