Prime Minister Julia Gillard has announced she wants Labor to back-flip on its policy and begin selling Australian uranium to India, which is not a signatory to the United Nations Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
On the same day Prime Minister Gillard announced the change of policy, India tested a long-range missile capable of carrying one of its nuclear warheads into China. Australia has a special responsibility as a uranium supplier to not fuel the open hostilities between India and Pakistan or increase nuclear tension in South Asia.
