Greens welcome ADF transparency first step

The changes in reporting casualties in the Middle East announced by the ADF are a long overdue first step towards transparency, the Australian Greens said today.

Greens response to US unilateral airstrikes in Syria

The Australian Greens condemn the Trump Administration’s decision to dangerously escalate the violence in Syria.

“Donald Trump's decision to unilaterally bomb Syrian airbases with more than fifty Tomahawk cruise missiles is deeply fraught. The horror of the chemical weapons attack in Syria this week requires a credible, independent investigation, not a random barrage of missiles ordered by a clueless President,” Acting Australian Greens Leader Senator Scott Ludlam said.

Greens Welcome Bishop's Syria Withdrawal Suggestion

The Greens have welcomed the surprise suggestion by Foreign Minister Julie Bishop that the US and Russia consider military withdrawal from the Syrian conflict.

“This is an important recognition that the path to peace in Syria lies through military draw-down rather than persisting with endless escalation,” Greens defence spokesman Senator Ludlam said.

Another Médecins Sans Frontières hospital tragedy

The Australian government should focus on diplomatic and humanitarian efforts in Syria, in the wake of the tragic Médecins Sans Frontières hospital bombing in Aleppo, the Australian Greens said today.

"We should withdraw our forces immediately, and dedicate our considerable diplomatic capacity and our resources to a humanitarian response. The last thing we should be doing is further adding to the chaos in Syria", Australian Greens Co-Deputy Leader and Foreign Affairs spokesperson Senator Scott Ludlam said today.

Turnbull must follow Trudeau’s Lead

Australia must take the opportunity to follow the example set by Canada and withdraw our Air Force from the chaos in Syria, the Australian Greens said today.

"This Air Force deployment is a legacy of Tony Abbott's desperation to have a war of his own. As well as even further destabilising the region, it's a huge disservice to our military personnel. Each day of Malcolm Turnbull's indifference is another day of danger for these men and women," Australian Greens Deputy Leader and Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Senator Scott Ludlam said today.
