Canning to Abbott: we want clean energy, not fear

Media Release
Scott Ludlam 3 Sep 2015

The Canning by-election is shaping up as a referendum on the Government’s performance on renewable energy and jobs, with both rated as more important in new ReachTel polling than Prime Minister Abbott’s preferred subject matter of war and terror.

“The ReachTel poll released today puts the writing on the wall for Prime Minister Abbott: jobs and clean energy rate higher for people living in Canning,” Senator Scott Ludlam said.

“The poll explicitly shows support for renewable energy as a greater concern to voters than national security.

“Existing Australian Solar Council research indicates that just under 50% of households in Canning have already embraced solar for power and hot water. The new poll shows a huge majority indicating support for ambitious renewable energy targets. This is core business for the Greens, and we are enjoying the opportunity to showcase our clean energy work and work with an expert candidate in Dr Vanessa Rauland during the snap campaign.

“Australia is ready to go solar - the biggest barrier is a painfully bewildered Prime Minister who is increasingly out of step with community values.”
