Greens demand Just Transition for Collie

Australian Greens Senator for WA Scott Ludlam will join protestors at Collie, in WA’s southwest, this weekend (19-20 Dec) to call for action by State and Federal governments on climate change and oppose the expansion of the local coal industry.

“This camp has been organised by young people dedicated to making the future a better place – and I wholeheartedly support their efforts,” Senator Ludlam said.

Fed Govt must intervene to stop mining on prime farmland: Greens

The Commonwealth Government must have the power to intervene directly to prevent mining on prime food growing lands, the Australian Greens say.

"We welcome today's report on the impacts of mining in the Murray Darling Basin, but it falls short of making the obvious recommendation," Greens Mining Spokesperson, Senator Scott Ludlam said today.

"The report clearly validates many of the concerns raised by Darling Downs and Surat Basin communities at the epicentre of the conflict between resource extraction and farming.

Senator LUDLAM-I would like to go to emergency management. Could the officers come to the table for subprogram 2.1.2, emergency management? I have a couple of questions about preparedness for the coming fire season. Could we start off with the status of the states and territories' fire risk audits that were requested by the Deputy Prime Minister prior to the coming fire season?
