With reference to the management by Parks Australia of Christmas Island National Park and the red crab (Gecarcoidea natalis), covered by the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Regulations, and the latest red crab spawn migration to the coast that occurred in 2010:

(1) Can the Minister confirm that the department's original approval for the Fiona Stanley Hospital site in Murdoch, Western Australia, included the protection of an offset package adjacent to a North Lake parcel of land (Datafile: 080627-Item38- beeliar.dwg, dated 26 June 2008).

Senator Ludlam asked the Minister representing the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, upon notice, on 11 March 2009:

(1) Is the Minister aware that in December 2008 the Bangkok Post reported that 300 animals at the Chiang Mai Night Safari zoo have died in the past 2 years.

(2) Can the Minister confirm whether this is the same zoo that was involved in the Federal government agreement to export native animals to Thailand in exchange for the import of Asian elephants to Taronga zoo.
