What an historic day it has been today in the Australian Senate.

The last parliamentary sitting week before the midwinter break has seen your Greens team continue to achieve great outcomes for all Australians who want a cleaner, healthier, smarter and fairer society.

AFP outsourcing spying on climate activists to private firm called NOSIC.

Senators Ludlam and Rhiannon asked the following question at the hearing on 14 February 2012:
Senator LUDLAM: ... I have a follow-up to one of Senator Wright's questions about NOSIC and your slightly creepy consultancy with them. You talked in a bit of detail about open source reporting. Would you consider somebody setting up a fake Facebook account as open source? Do they do that kind of thing?

New urban policy body welcome, but can’t be a toothless tiger - Greens

The Australian Greens have welcomed the new national urban policy forum, but urged the Government to put its money where its mouth is.

"We've finally got what looks like a meaningful step forward - and need to see this translated into strong, decisive action," said Greens sustainable cities spokesperson, Senator for Western Australia Scott Ludlam.

Minister using ASIO to spy at the behest of the fossil fuel lobby must be held to account

The Australian Greens have reacted strongly to confirmation that fossil fuel companies successfully pressured energy minister Martin Ferguson to enlist ASIO and the Federal Police in spying on climate change and clean energy activists.

"This is a deliberate abuse of the role of Australian security agencies, who have better things to do than follow the dictates of foreign coal and energy corporations," Australian Greens Senator Scott Ludlam said.
