The World Heritage values of the Burrup

DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT Question No. 2633 Senator Ludlam asked the Minister representing the Minister for the Environment, in writing, on20 November 2015:With reference to the World Heritage values of the Burrup:

(1) Could the Minister confirm that nominations to the next World Heritage nomination listing process are due by 1 February 2016.

(2) Can an outline be provided of the process and timeframe that would have to be met in order to make a nomination by February 1 2016.

Beeliar wetlands latest environmental treasure to be Huntstruck

‘Environment’ Minister Greg Hunt has approved the destruction of the Beeliar wetlands, despite his approval relying on assessment materials that are currently before the Supreme Court of WA, the Australian Greens said today.

“Minister Hunt is exposing the federal government to a prolonged and expensive court proceeding by charging ahead before this matter is even resolved at the state level,” said Australian Greens Deputy Leader and Senator for WA Scott Ludlam.

The beginning of the end for the Perth Freight Link

The Perth Freight Link has hit another major hurdle with revelations in Senate Estimates hearings that the Turnbull Government may not fund the project at all, and that a final decision on that Commonwealth funding is still months away.

"Premier Barnett is proceeding as though Commonwealth funding of the project is guaranteed, and Tony Abbott would have him believe that was true.

Perth Light Rail back on the tracks

The Barnett government should seize the opportunity presented by the shift in the Liberals senseless opposition to urban rail projects, and put Perth Light Rail back on the agenda, according to the Greens.

"Five years of hard work was brought undone when the Barnett Government dumped its election promise to build Max Light Rail. At the time, the loss of Federal funding was cited as the justification," Australian Greens Senator for WA Scott Ludlam said today.
