The State of the Cities Report shows the urgent need for a coordinated approach to transport and housing, Australian Greens sustainable cities spokesperson Senator for Western Australia Scott Ludlam said today.

"The Report vindicates what advocates of sustainable urban planning have been saying for more than a decade," Senator Ludlam said. "On one hand the supply of housing is not meeting demand, on the other hand urban sprawl solves one problem by creating more problems."

$80 million a year could make Perth cycling world's best

An ambitious plan to radically improve the safety, extent and use of the Perth Bike Network will be launched today.

The Greens 2029 Perth Bike Plan (available at www.scottludlam.org.au/bikevision) is a costed package that will deliver around 6600km of safe, separated and well maintained bike lanes and paths across Perth by the year 2029.

Senator LUDLAM asked: 

WA Greens have urged the Federal Government to take more action to address aircraft noise in residential areas after a private members Bill on the issue was defeated in Federal Parliament.

Greens Senator for Western Australia Scott Ludlam said that most of the recommendations of the 2009 Aviation White Paper and the 2010 Senate Inquiry into Aircraft Noise had been delayed too long.
