The national bike path program which commenced as part of the stimulus package in 2009 is already benefitting the country, the Australian Greens said today.

Greens transport spokesperson Senator Scott Ludlam said the program helped build important infrastructure, and rejected claims the slower than expected roll-out undercuts the positive role the stimulus package played during the financial crisis.

The Australian Greens have welcomed the new national urban policy forum, but urged the Government to put its money where its mouth is.

"We've finally got what looks like a meaningful step forward - and need to see this translated into strong, decisive action," said Greens sustainable cities spokesperson, Senator for Western Australia Scott Ludlam.

More than 100 workers in Fremantle and Bunbury locked out of their workplaces today are the targets of an unacceptable campaign of industrial extremism by stevedoring company POAGS, the Australian Greens said today.

Greens transport spokesperson, Senator for Western Australia Scott Ludlam, said the workers were being targeted after using work bans to protest about safety concerns and POAGS dragging out Agreement negotiations for 12 months.

Before I give Senator Ludlam the call, we have got to the bottom of the confusion relating to the five pages of Queensland projects being funded under the Nation Building Program. There was a mix-up in the lettering. It was MOU and I believe you said MUO, so it is there if that assists you. I have a copy there for you anyway.

The Australian Greens today welcomed the announcement of the Liveable Cities Program, designed to encourage sustainable urban development and called for further funding reforms to meet Australia's booming demand for public and active transport.

WA Greens have called for free Wi-Fi internet connection on public transport in Perth to encourage more people to leave their cars at home.

Greens Federal transport spokesperson Senator Scott Ludlam said free wi fi would make public transport more practical and more appealing for commuters, especially people travelling to and from work.
