Greens welcome the closure of Japan’s last reactor

Japan has closed down the Tomari nuclear plant in Hokkaido, the final reactor to close in response to the ongoing crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex.

"The people of Japan have stopped believing the lies told to them for decades about nuclear power being clean, cheap and safe," said Senator Scott Ludlam, Australian Greens spokesperson on nuclear policy.

On the 26th anniversary of Chernobyl, Greens call on whistleblowers to break the silence

The Australian Greens will mark the 26th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe by calling on whistleblowers to lift the lid on Australia's own nuclear industry.

Greens spokesperson on nuclear policy Senator Scott Ludlam said the impact of the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine in 1986 continued to be felt to this day. Senator Ludlam today released a research paper on the situation at Chernobyl today and its ongoing costs:

Fight to stop Muckaty nuclear waste dump “just getting started”

The Australian Greens today vowed to step up the campaign against the planned nuclear waste dump at Muckaty Station in the Northern Territory.

The Greens spokesperson for nuclear issues, Senator for Western Australia Scott Ludlam, said Labor and the Coalition colluding to pass the National Radioactive Waste Management Bill in the Senate today was "just the beginning of the next phase in the campaign to stop this waste dump".

Labor attempts to sneak nuclear waste dump under the radar

Labor's attempt to pass widely-opposed nuclear waste dump legislation under the cover of their leadership squabble is cynical and shameless, the Australian Greens said today.

Greens spokesperson for nuclear issues Senator Scott Ludlam said Labor wants to pass the National Radioactive Waste Management Bill behind the fog of the leadership dispute because the law is "completely rotten".
